WCO Supports BURS in Implementing Advance Rulings

Under the framework of the EU-WCO Rules of Origin Africa Programme, funded by the European Union, the World Customs Organization (WCO) has provided technical assistance to Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) to help them implement advance rulings.

The technical assistance activity was held in Gaborone, Botswana, from 28 to 30 November 2022. The workshop was attended by Customs officials from Classification, Valuation and Origin, within the Customs Services Division.

The workshop’s objective was to assist BURS with reviewing their draft Advance Ruling guidelines document and to enhance their knowledge and application of advance rulings.

The WCO provided technical expertise to review the draft document and provided advice on the development of a practical structure for the implementation of advance rulings. The workshop also provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and experiences on the implementation of advance rulings.

The WCO is committed to supporting BURS in their efforts to implement advance rulings and to ensure efficient and effective trade facilitation through the implementation of the WCO Data Model.
